2024 11/6 6-8Grade by Nancy

Students in both tours were all very engaged and responded to my questions well. One student appeared to be more comfortable answering questions in Chinese, which was not a problem.

I might try having the students do some drawing in the future, but meaningful conversations about these artworks with 6th-grade students are rewarding also.

It was a pleasure to tour these students today.

  1. Hi Nancy,
Here are drawing that I experimented so far:
    1. In front of the inverted pyramid, ask students to draw what you want to show to aliens.
    2. Before showing “Canvas on the moon”, ask student to draw the painting with the same title. When you moved to the room with “Canvas on the moon”, ask students what is different and similar between his/her art and Cai’s.

  2. Nancy,

I agree with you that sometimes a meaningful conversation is more rewarding than an activity that has little meaning. I don’t generally do upper grades, but have done Canvas on the Moon with 2nd graders and before telling them what the canvas was about, I had them imagine that they were standing in the landscape and draw what they imagined. Then I showed them the actual photos from the moon and explained.
